Freebie Links

I frequently add sites and links as I run across them, so check back often.  [Last update: March, 2015

Keep in mind some freebies are only available for a short time. Before including a link, I have made sure it is currently valid. However, should you find one that no longer works or it's a freebie posted without permission of the designer, PLEASE, leave a comment at the bottom!  Look also under Labels at the bottom of the posts for LMc Design/Bits of Floss freebies.

Alphabets: Fonts/typefaces have been one of my time and printer ink consuming, "generally for no other reason other than I found them interesting" hobbies in years past. Before it crashed in 2010, I had over 1200 of them on my computer. (For links to free font sites, see my Other Links page). Many typefaces have been adapted for needlework and cross stitch ever since printing began hundreds of years ago. Others were created specifically for needlework, such as the traditional ones used in old samplers and current designs by Prairie Schooler, Little House Needlework, etc. There are many old monogram alphabets as well. Nowadays cross-stitch alphabets can be very creative in and of themselves.

  • Tantes Zolder: My Aunt's Attic - very interesting original blog by Lilian Kok that includes digitized versions of hand-drawn traditional and and antique designs her found in her Aunt's Attic  (tantes zolder in Dutch). I saw some of these in the original form and it appeared they were hand copied from design collections, books of motivs or magazines up to around 1934 and are now being distributed under a creative commons license.  Lilian enlisted the help of several volunteers to help digitize them so they could be shared with all stitchers. The charts, once scattered through out her blog, have been compiled and categorized and can now be found on Isabel's blog.  This is a must see site if for no other reason than it's historical value and designs from the late 19th and early 20th century.
  • The Silver Needle - freebie page - Lizzie Kate, Erica Michaels, Shepherds Bush, others
In French: various subjects: (look for grilles gratuites in most cases, watch out for all the ads on some of these sites, and be sure to delete cookies they will all probably set)
